English Otome Games
Otome games known as romance games aimed with a female audience, originated in japan but now it finally reaches international audiences as well. In the past few years more and more games are released in English for the west market, which allows everyone every player worldwide to date there share of handsome men. With interest in romance Visual Novel(VN) is an all-time favorite due to the widespread success of games like Dream Daddy in 2017, and I want to remove some misconceptions about the otome game to briefly explained this to you.
The term “Otome” comes from the Japanese word young lady, indicating the target audience of the genre. The origins of the genre date back at least to Angelique, which was released for Super Famicom in 1994 and considered the first otome game ever released. Angelique was developed by a team of women at KOEI known as (Ruby Party) who wanted to make more games that would attract more girls.
At first otome games are not available in English for West World, but due to the high popularity of games in the West they have to released in the western world to occupy space in West. Considering the demand for games in English Developers are ready to launch their games in English to gain there popularity.
Today otome games have such a wide range for everyone, You certainly don’t have to be a young lady to enjoy those free otome games. However, since the genre originated as romance games for women and took many stylistic queues from manga, the protagonists are women, and the romance options are nearly always men. (There are some instances of otome games with female romance options, such as the Japan-only OZMAFIA!! and Mystic Messenger)
During Expo panel, the company who is known to localize different otome games in English and confirmed 4 games which come in this year are shown below:
CODE REALIZE: GUARDIAN OF REBIRTH AND FUTURE BLESSINGS
COLLAR X MALICE AND COLLAR X MALICE UNLIMITED
PIOFIORE: FATED MEMORIES
For this record I have deliberately rejected Otome apps (with the exception of Hakuoki, available on handheld consoles as well as iOS and Android Mobiles). I have done this because a lot of games are removed. I do still enjoy otome apps from time to time, and I have enjoyed games such as London Detective, Shall We Date? by (NTT) Solmare and Forbidden Romance by D3. My preference for otome gaming is, however, PC and handheld console.
